Artificial intelligence is no longer just an emerging technology area for the UK. From investment and infrastructure to chip technology and public policy, AI is becoming central to the country's economic growth and technology strategy.
Strong growth in AI investment
In the first half of 2026, AI startups in the UK raised $12.6 billion in funding. This accounted for nearly three quarters of total startup investment in the country.
During the same period, 19 of the 28 mega rounds went to AI companies, while all four funding rounds exceeding $1 billion were in the AI sector. The largest round was the $2.1 billion raised by Isomorphic Labs for its AI-powered drug design platform.
These figures show that the UK is positioning AI not simply as another part of the technology sector, but as a strategic area that will shape the future of its economy.
The government is accelerating investment
The UK's AI strategy is not limited to private sector investment. The government is taking significant steps across several areas to strengthen the ecosystem.
Sovereign AI Unit: Launched in April 2026 with £500 million in funding, the unit invests in AI companies operating in strategic areas. In addition to funding, companies can receive support such as GPU capacity, accelerated visa processes and access to public procurement opportunities.
AI Hardware Plan: Announced in June 2026, the £1.1 billion plan includes investments in an AI supercomputer, chip design and talent development.
AI Growth Zones: Designated areas aimed at accelerating data centre and energy infrastructure have attracted at least $38.5 billion in private investment commitments to date.
These investments are creating a growing market in the UK, not only for AI companies seeking funding, but also for businesses offering infrastructure, talent and new technology partnerships.

Where are the opportunities for Turkish companies?
Although a significant share of the UK's public support is directed towards domestic companies, the growing AI ecosystem is also creating new opportunities for international technology companies.
Application solutions: Demand is growing for solutions that integrate AI into real business processes across sectors such as healthcare, finance, retail and manufacturing.
Data and technology services: Turkish technology teams with expertise in data labelling, model integration, MLOps and cybersecurity can offer competitive value as potential technology partners for UK companies.
Chip and embedded technologies: Increasing investment in AI hardware is creating new opportunities for partnerships in areas such as electronic design and embedded software.
Establishing a presence in the UK: Companies that establish a local legal entity and build a local team can gain more direct access to UK customers, investors and ecosystem stakeholders over time.
Expanding from Türkiye to the UK: The Right Time veya Now is the Time to Expand from Türkiye to the UK
As the UK's AI investments accelerate, the opportunity is not limited to British AI companies. The demand for technology, infrastructure, expertise and business partnerships within this growing ecosystem is expanding as well.
For Turkish technology companies, the key question is not whether to stay outside this growth, but where their technology and expertise can fit within the UK's expanding AI ecosystem.
